Case IH 4005 – DV Module: Signal of Aux-stick (AUX2) - out of range low
Issue description
The control module is detecting that the signal voltage from the auxiliary joystick (Aux-stick) controlling the #2 remote valve (AUX2) has dropped below the minimum permissible range. This condition is typically caused by a short circuit to ground, an open circuit in the wiring harness, or a completely failed potentiometer inside the joystick.

Check the cause
Use the tractor's built-in diagnostic H-menus (e.g., H2 or H3 menus on the lower central display) to monitor the live electrical channel for the AUX2 joystick. Observe if the voltage changes when the stick is moved.
Remove the armrest cover and inspect the wiring harness and connector specifically going to the AUX2 joystick. Look for backed-out pins, corrosion, or chafed wires shorting to the armrest frame.
Verify that the ARU (Armrest Unit) is receiving proper supply voltage. If only code 4005 is present, the issue is isolated to the AUX2 circuit.
Temporarily swap the AUX2 joystick connection with the AUX1 or AUX3 joystick. If the fault code changes to the corresponding swapped circuit, the joystick potentiometer has failed. If the 4005 code remains, the wiring harness or the DV module itself is at fault.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during module handling.
Access the Armrest
Remove the retaining screws for the armrest console cover to expose the auxiliary joystick controls (Aux-sticks).
Remove the Faulty Joystick
Disconnect the electrical connector from the AUX2 joystick. Unbolt the joystick assembly from the armrest mounting bracket.
Install the Replacement
Mount the new Aux-stick potentiometer into the console and reconnect the wiring harness.
Reassemble
Secure the armrest cover and reconnect the battery.
Calibrate the New Joystick
Perform the Electronic Draft Control / Remote Valve calibration procedure (often found in the H8 calibration menu). This allows the DV module to learn the new potentiometer's exact neutral, maximum raise, and maximum lower voltage values.
