4011-03 - BCM

Case IH 4011-03 - BCM – BCM: Headlamp high beam left - short circuit to B+

Issue description

The electrical circuit for the left high beam headlamp is inappropriately receiving positive battery voltage (B+). This typically happens when the wire supplying power or ground to the left high beam has chafed and is touching a constant power wire within the harness, or if there is an internal short within the control module itself.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum Series (235-340, 380, AFS Connect)
  • Optum AFS Series
  • AFX8010 Combines

Check the cause

  1. Perform a visual harness inspection from the left high beam headlamp back to the BCM, looking for pinched wires, melted insulation, or rubbing against the frame.

  2. Perform a voltage check with the tractor off and the headlight switch in the OFF position. Probe the left high beam connector; if approx. 12V is present, a short to B+ is confirmed.

  3. Disconnect the harness at the BCM and inspect the pins for water intrusion, corrosion, or bent pins that could bridge connections.

  4. Isolate the short: With the BCM disconnected, check for continuity between the left high beam wire and the main battery power wires. Continuity indicates a harness short; no continuity indicates an internal BCM failure.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the negative battery terminal before performing electrical repairs to prevent further module damage.

  2. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

If a short was found in the harness, cut out the damaged section of the wire. Splice in a new section of wire using weather-resistant heat-shrink butt connectors. Wrap the repaired section in protective loom or electrical tape.

  3. Replace the BCM (If Applicable)

If the harness tests good, the BCM must be replaced. Locate the BCM (typically inside the cab console or behind the trim panels), disconnect the multi-pin connectors, unbolt the module and install the replacement.

  4. Module Programming

A new BCM will require parameter setting and software flashing (e.g., using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool / EDT) to match the tractor's VIN and equipment configuration.

  5. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the fault codes from the BCM memory. Test the high beams for proper operation.
