Case IH 4011-06 - BCM – BCM: Headlamp high beam left - short circuit to ground

The electrical circuit supplying power to the left high beam headlamp has found an unintended path to the chassis ground, which typically results in blown fuses, disabled lighting, or protective circuit deactivation by the control module.

   Inspect the left headlamp assembly and its connector for signs of water intrusion, melted plastic, or corrosion.

   Trace the wiring harness from the left headlamp back toward the cab/BCM. Look for areas where the wire may be chafing against the tractor frame, pinched under a panel, or damaged by rodents.

   Check the front lighting ground splice packs (usually located near the headlight assemblies). Remove the end cap and look for burnt terminals or melted combs.

   Disconnect the left high beam bulb and use a multimeter to check for continuity to ground on the power supply wire. If the short disappears, the bulb/housing is internally shorted. If it remains, the harness is shorted to the chassis.

   Disconnect Power

   Always disconnect the battery at the master switch or battery terminals before repairing electrical shorts to prevent damage to the BCM.

   Repair the Short

   If the wiring is chafed: Cut out the damaged section of the wire. Splice in a new section of wire using weather-sealed, heat-shrink butt connectors. If the splice pack is burnt: Cut out the damaged splice pack and wire the grounds together using a sealed closed-end connector. If the bulb is shorted: Replace the left high beam headlamp bulb or the entire sealed LED assembly.

   BCM Inspection

   If the wiring and bulb are perfectly fine, inspect the BCM connectors for water ingress or bent pins. Apply dielectric grease to the connectors to keep moisture out.

   Test and Clear

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on and clear the inactive fault codes via the AFS Pro 1200 display. Test the high beams to ensure the circuit holds the load without logging the 4011-06 code again.
