Case IH 4012-05 - BCM – Body Controller (BCM): Headlamp 2 High Beam (Right High Beam) Current below normal or open circuit

The control module has detected an open circuit or an abnormally low current draw on the right-hand high beam headlight circuit. This typically indicates a burnt-out bulb, a disconnected plug, a broken wire in the harness, or a blown fuse/relay preventing power from reaching the lamp.

   Inspect the right headlamp bulb to see if the filament is broken or burnt out

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the right headlamp for corrosion, loose pins, water ingress, or physical damage

   Check the fuses and relays related to the headlamp/high-beam circuit in the fuse panel

   Use a multimeter to measure voltage at the headlamp connector with the ignition ON and the high beams commanded ON (should be ~12V)

   Check for continuity to ground on the ground wire of the headlamp connector (should be near 0 Ω)

   If there is no voltage at the connector, check continuity between the BCM output pin for the right high beam and the headlamp connector to verify the wire is not broken

   Prepare machine for repair

   Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery ground if performing wiring repairs.

   Replace burnt-out bulb

   If the bulb is burnt out: Remove the right headlamp housing cover, unplug the connector, unclip the retaining spring, and replace the high beam bulb. Do not touch the glass of the new halogen bulb with bare fingers.

   Clean or replace corroded connector

   If the connector is corroded: Clean the terminals with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease. If the connector is melted or heavily corroded, splice in a new replacement pigtail connector using solder and heat-shrink tubing.

   Replace blown fuse

   If a fuse is blown: Replace the fuse. Before turning the lights back on, test the circuit for shorts to ground to prevent the new fuse from blowing immediately.

   Repair broken wire

   If there is a broken wire: Trace the harness back from the headlight to the BCM. Locate the break (often at pinch points or where the harness bends near the hood hinge) and repair it using proper automotive wire splicing techniques.

   Finalize repair and test

   Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and clear the inactive fault codes using a diagnostic scan tool. Test the high beams to verify the repair.
