Case IH 4015 – DV Module: Signal from Remote Flow Potentiometer 4 (AUX 4) - out of range (DV module only)

The electronic control unit is receiving a voltage signal from the flow control potentiometer for the 4th auxiliary remote valve (AUX 4) that falls outside the expected operating parameters (typically below 0.5V or above 4.5V). This usually points to a worn-out potentiometer (dead spots in the resistor track), a disconnected plug, or a damaged wiring harness inside the armrest.

   Inspect the AUX 4 flow control dial on the armrest for physical damage, stickiness, or excessive play.

   Carefully open the armrest console and inspect the 3-wire connector for loose pins, corrosion, or chafed wires.

   With the key ON, use a multimeter to verify that the potentiometer is receiving the standard 5V reference signal and has a solid ground from the armrest controller.

   Back-probe the signal wire and perform a signal sweep test by slowly turning the AUX 4 flow dial from 0% to 100%. The voltage should sweep smoothly without dropping to 0V, spiking, or reading out of range.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts while working inside the armrest controller.

   Disassemble the Armrest

   Remove the retaining screws on the underside or perimeter of the Multicontroller armrest to lift the top cover plate.

   Locate the Component

   Identify the specific potentiometer corresponding to the AUX 4 flow control dial.

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical pigtail/connector from the faulty potentiometer. Remove the retaining nut (often a 3/8-32 nut) or mounting screws holding the potentiometer to the console housing. Pull the potentiometer out (you may need to pull the plastic knob off the top of the shaft first).

   Installation

   Insert the new potentiometer into the mounting hole, ensuring the alignment tab sits in the correct slot. Secure it with the retaining nut.

   Reassembly

   Push the control knob back onto the splined/D-shaped shaft. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Close Armrest

   Carefully reinstall the armrest cover, ensuring no wires are pinched.

   Test and Calibrate

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key ON and clear the inactive fault codes via the Pro 700 display. Test the AUX 4 flow dial to ensure the code does not return. (Note: Depending on the exact software version, a quick armrest control calibration via the tractor's display menu may be required to teach the controller the new potentiometer's min/max voltage values).
