4026-06 - BCM

Case IH 4026-06 - BCM – BCM: Right mirror heater - short circuit to ground

Issue description

The control module has detected an electrical short to ground in the circuit responsible for powering the right-hand cab mirror heater. A short to ground typically means the power wire is touching the machine's chassis or a ground wire, bypassing the heater element load and potentially blowing a fuse or disabling the circuit to protect the module.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the right-hand mirror housing and the wiring harness leading from the cab to the mirror for pinched wires, chafed insulation, or exposed copper touching the metal frame.

  2. Disconnect the right mirror electrical connector and inspect the pins for corrosion, water ingress, or melting, which can bridge the power and ground circuits.

  3. With the mirror disconnected, use a digital multimeter to measure the resistance across the mirror heater element pins. If it reads near zero ohms or shows direct continuity to the mirror's ground/chassis, the heater element itself is internally shorted.

  4. With the mirror still disconnected and the battery disconnected, test the power supply wire coming from the BCM to the mirror connector for continuity to ground. If continuity to ground is present, the short is located within the wiring harness between the BCM and the mirror.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent further electrical damage during the repair.

  2. Isolate the Fault

Disconnect the electrical connector at the right-hand mirror assembly.

  3. Repair the Wiring Harness

If the diagnostic tests proved the harness is shorted to ground, trace the wire back to the BCM. Pay special attention to pivot points (like the cab door or window hinges) where wires frequently chafe. Cut out the damaged section of the wire, splice in a new wire of the same gauge, solder the connection, and seal it with marine-grade heat shrink tubing.

  4. Replace the Mirror Heater

If the short is internal to the mirror heater element, carefully unclip and remove the right mirror glass/heater assembly from the mirror head housing. Plug the electrical leads into the new heated mirror glass and snap it securely into the housing.

  5. Reassembly

Reconnect the main mirror electrical connector.

  6. Clear Codes and Test

Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition ON and use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the BCM fault codes. Turn on the mirror heater switch and verify that the mirror glass warms up and the 4026-06 fault code does not return.
