4057-05 - BCM

Case IH 4057-05 - BCM – BCM: Wiper Motor Undercurrent / Open in Wiper Motor Circuit

Issue description

The controller has detected that the electrical circuit for the front windshield wiper low-speed motor is incomplete (open circuit) or drawing less current than expected. This prevents the wiper from operating in the low-speed or intermittent settings.

Check the cause

  1. Check the Wiper Switch: Verify the switch inputs to the BCM. If the switch is disconnected or failing, the inputs will pull up to accessory voltage, which can cause erratic operation or default to high speed.

  2. Inspect Connectors for Deformation/Corrosion: Check the mating side of the connector terminals at the wiper motor and the BCM.

  3. Circuit Resistance Test: With the ignition OFF, test the ignition/control circuit end-to-end. You should see less than 2 Ω of resistance.

  4. Short-to-Ground Test: Test for infinite resistance between the ignition circuit and ground.

  5. Relay Check: Check the Wiper ON/OFF and High/Low relays (if equipped externally from the BCM) for proper operation and seated pins.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn the ignition OFF and disconnect the battery ground to protect the BCM.

  2. Access the Motor

Remove the interior cab headliner or wiper motor cover panel to access the front wiper motor assembly.

  3. Disconnect and Inspect

Unplug the 5-pin connector plug from the wiper motor. Inspect the pins for pushed-out terminals or green corrosion.

  4. Test the Harness

Perform the continuity and resistance tests outlined in the diagnostic steps between the BCM harness and the wiper motor plug. Repair any broken wires.

  5. Replace the Motor

If the wiring harness, relays, and switch test good, the open circuit is internal to the wiper motor windings. Remove the wiper arm from the exterior splined/tapered output shaft. Unbolt the wiper motor bracket from the cab frame and remove the motor. Install the new OEM wiper motor and secure the mounting bolts. Reattach the wiper arm and reconnect the electrical harness.

  6. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition ON, and use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the 4057-05 BCM fault code. Test the wiper in all speed positions.
