Case IH 4057-06 - BCM – BCM (Body Control Module): Front wiper low speed motor - short circuit to ground

The control module has detected a short circuit to ground on the circuit responsible for powering the front windshield wiper motor's low-speed function. The electrical current intended to drive the low-speed winding of the wiper motor is finding an unintended path directly to the chassis ground. This condition typically results in a blown fuse to protect the circuit, a complete loss of the low-speed wiper function, or the BCM entering a fail-safe mode to prevent electrical fire or module damage.

   Check the cab relay and fuse block for a blown front wiper motor fuse (e.g., 25A), which confirms a hard short to ground.

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the BCM to the front wiper motor for chafing against the metal frame, especially near the roof liner.

   Perform a circuit isolation test by disconnecting the wiper motor and checking for continuity to ground on the low-speed power wire to determine if the short is in the harness or internal to the motor.

   Access the Motor

   Disconnect the battery negative terminal before performing electrical repairs. Remove the cab ceiling trim or the specific wiper motor cover panel to gain access to the front wiper motor assembly.

   Disconnect Electricals

   Unplug the wiring harness connector from the wiper motor.

   Address the Short

   If the harness is damaged: Repair the chafed or melted wires using proper splice sleeves and heat shrink. Re-route the harness or add protective loom to prevent it from rubbing against the cab frame again. If the motor is internally shorted: Proceed to replace the motor.

   Remove the Wiper Arm

   Unbolt and remove the exterior wiper blade and arm from the motor spindle.

   Remove the Motor

   Remove the retaining nuts securing the motor unit to the cab framework and extract the motor.

   Install the New Motor

   Position the new wiper motor. Caution: Always use appropriate tools to align fixing holes; never use fingers or hands to align linkages. Secure it with the retaining nuts.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical connector. Reinstall the exterior wiper arm and blade.

   Restore Cab Trim

   Install the cab ceiling trim back onto the framework.

   Test and Clear

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on and test the wiper switch through all speeds (Intermittent, Low, High). Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 4057-06 fault code from the BCM memory.
