Case IH 4102 – EHR: Rear Remote No.1 Checksum Failure

The microprocessor on the #1 rear remote valve has detected corrupted internal memory (EEPROM) or its internal calibration data has failed a mathematical checksum verification. This indicates that the valve's electronic control module has lost or corrupted its operating parameters.

   Inspect the electrical connector at Rear Remote No. 1 for water ingress, corrosion, or damaged pins, as voltage drops or poor grounding can cause memory read errors.

   Clear the fault codes and attempt to run the remote valve calibration procedure through the tractor's in-cab display or Electronic Service Tool (EST). If the EEPROM is permanently corrupted, calibration will fail.

   Perform a swap test by moving the electrical connector from Rear Remote No. 1 to Rear Remote No. 2. If the fault code changes to the corresponding error for Remote No. 2 (e.g., 4116/4117), the failure is internal to the valve. If the fault code remains 4102, the issue lies within the tractor's wiring harness or the main EHR controller.

   Relieve hydraulic pressure

   Turn off the tractor and cycle the remote levers/switches to relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system.

   Disconnect power

   Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Remove the faulty valve

   Disconnect the wiring harness from Rear Remote No. 1. Unbolt the tie-rods/mounting bolts holding the hydraulic valve stack together and carefully remove the faulty #1 remote valve slice.

   Install replacement valve

   Install the new or remanufactured remote valve slice (or replace just the electronic control module puck on top of the valve, depending on parts availability). Replace any O-rings between the valve slices.

   Reassemble valve stack

   Torque the valve stack bolts to OEM specifications and reconnect the electrical harness.

   Calibrate new valve

   Power on the tractor. You must perform a remote valve calibration using the tractor's display or the EST so the main controller can learn the new valve's spool travel limits and establish CAN BUS communication.
