4104

Case IH 4104 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote): Rear remote no. 1 - under voltage

Issue description

The controller is receiving a voltage signal from the rear remote valve #1 (specifically the spool position potentiometer or driver circuit) that has dropped below the normal operating threshold. This typically indicates an open circuit, a short to ground in the wiring harness, or a failed position transducer/potentiometer on the valve itself.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Maxxum
  • Steiger T4B
  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Case IH Magnum Series
  • Case IH Puma Series
  • Case IH Steiger Series
  • Case IH Maxxum Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connector at rear remote valve #1 for corrosion, pushed-back pins, or physical damage.

  2. Check the 5.0V sensor supply and ground at the remote valve connector. A loss of the 5V reference or a short to ground on the signal wire will trigger the under voltage code.

  3. Perform a swap test by moving the electrical connector from remote valve #1 to remote valve #2. If the fault code changes to the equivalent code for remote #2 (e.g., 4115/4116), the issue is internal to the valve's potentiometer/driver. If the 4104 code persists, the issue is in the tractor's wiring harness or the EHR controller.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to protect the EHR module.

  2. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic checks revealed a short to ground or broken wire in the harness between the EHR and the valve, repair the damaged section or replace the pigtail connector.

  3. Replace the Valve Section/Potentiometer

If the valve itself is faulty, remove the hydraulic pressure from the system, unbolt the valve section from the rear remote stack, and install the new section with new O-rings.

  4. Calibrate the Valve

After replacing the valve or sensor, you must perform the EHR rear remote valve calibration procedure via the AFS Pro monitor or the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to allow the controller to learn the new spool travel limits.
