Case IH 4108 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) or ATC (Armrest/Tractor Controller): Rear Remote No.1 - Open Center Position Not Reached
Issue description
The tractor's control system commanded the spool valve for the #1 rear hydraulic remote to return to its open center (neutral or float) position, but the internal position transducer (potentiometer) reported that the spool did not physically reach this position. This typically indicates a mechanical bind in the valve spool, a failing electronic actuator/driver, a defective internal position sensor, or a calibration drift.

Check the cause
Verify that the #1 remote lever, paddle, or joystick on the armrest is physically returning to the neutral position and isn't sticking.
Inspect the #1 rear remote valve at the back of the tractor for heavy debris, ice, or physical damage that could prevent the spool from centering.
Disconnect the electrical connector at the #1 remote valve and inspect for water intrusion, corrosion, or pushed-back pins.
Swap the electrical connector from Remote #1 to Remote #2 to isolate the valve. If the fault code changes to the Remote #2 equivalent, the issue is inside the #1 valve actuator/sensor. If the code remains 4108, the issue is in the wiring harness or the armrest controller.
Attempt to recalibrate the EHR valves via the A-post display or Pro700/AFS Connect monitor before replacing parts. (Note: Older MX Magnums may require a specific calibration tool/transducer cable, part # CAS2806, plugged into the test port.)
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and cycle the remote levers to relieve all hydraulic pressure in the system. Lower any attached implements.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the rear remote valve stack with brake cleaner or a pressure washer to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.
Disconnect Wiring
Unplug the electrical harness connector from the #1 remote valve section.
Remove the Valve Section
Disconnect the hydraulic lines/couplers attached to the #1 valve. Remove the tie-bolts that hold the remote valve stack together. Carefully slide the #1 valve section out of the stack, ensuring you do not lose or damage the O-rings between the valve slices.
Install the New Part
Lubricate the new O-rings with clean hydraulic oil and place them between the valve sections. Insert the new valve section (or replacement actuator head). Reinstall the tie-bolts and torque them to the manufacturer's specification.
Reassembly
Reconnect the hydraulic lines and the electrical harness.
Final Calibration
Turn the key on and perform the EHR valve calibration procedure using the in-cab display or the Case IH EST diagnostic tool. The system must learn the new valve's transducer limits before it will operate.
