Case IH 4112 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Control Module: Rear Remote No.1 - Spool Cannot be Brought Back to Neutral

The system detects that the hydraulic spool for the #1 rear remote valve has not returned to its center (neutral) position when commanded, or the spool position transducer/potentiometer is reading a value outside of the acceptable neutral range. The system typically locks out the hydraulic functions for that remote for safety until the tractor is restarted.

   Restart the tractor to see if the remote works temporarily, which confirms an active tracking or mechanical issue rather than a one-time glitch

   Attempt to recalibrate the EHR switches via the A-post display or Pro monitor

   Isolate the cab switch versus the valve by swapping electrical connections between Remote #1 and another remote (like #2). If the fault changes to the other remote, the armrest switch is the culprit. If the 4112 code persists, the issue is at the rear valve

   Inspect the EHR pilot head/actuator on the rear valve stack for damaged wiring, poor connector seating, or signs of physical binding in the spool

   Calibrate the System

   Enter the tractor's calibration mode for the armrest (ARM) and follow the prompts to calibrate the remote levers. If the system successfully calibrates and the code clears, no further repair is needed.

   Replace the Armrest Lever

   If the calibration fails or the diagnostic isolation points to the cab, remove the armrest console cover. Disconnect the wiring harness for the #1 remote lever and remove the retaining screws. Install a new remote valve control lever/potentiometer, reassemble the armrest, and calibrate the new lever.

   Service the EHR Pilot Head / Valve

   If the fault is at the rear valve, the pilot head (the electronic module that controls the remote valve) or the spool itself is failing to center.

   Mechanical Rebuild

   Remove the slotted plug and actuator cap on the rear of the valve. Inspect the detent sleeve, detent balls, and centering spring. If the spool is mechanically sticking, the valve body must be disassembled, cleaned, and resealed using grease to ease the assembly of the detent balls and spring.

   Replace the Valve Section

   If the internal position transducer inside the pilot head has failed and cannot be serviced separately, the pilot head or the entire remote valve section must be replaced.

   Final Calibration

   After any parts are replaced on the EHR system, turn the key on, clear the stored 4112 fault code, and perform a final hydraulic calibration before operating the implement.
