Case IH 4114 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote): Rear remote no. 2 - no control message received

CAN bus communication error indicating that the tractor's control network has lost contact with the electronic actuator on the #2 rear hydraulic remote valve. The controller is expecting a status/position message from the valve but is receiving nothing, causing the system to disable the remote or put it into a fail-safe mode.

   Check for Multiple Codes: Determine if other remotes are also failing (e.g., code 4100 for Remote #1 or 4128 for Remote #3). If multiple valves have lost communication, the issue is likely a main CAN bus wiring break or a blown fuse supplying the rear EHR manifold.

   Inspect the Connector: Locate the #2 rear remote valve at the rear hydraulic stack. Disconnect the electrical plug and inspect for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.

   Verify Power and Ground: Use a multimeter to ensure the valve actuator is receiving 12V power and has a solid ground when the key is ON.

   Test CAN Bus Integrity: Measure the resistance between the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the valve connector. A healthy CAN bus should read approximately 60 ohms. If it reads 120 ohms or is open, there is a wiring harness break between the armrest/EHR controller and the valve.

   Depressurize the System

   Turn off the tractor, lower all implements, and cycle the hydraulic levers/switches to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure.

   Disconnect the Battery

   Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Remove the Actuator/Valve

   Depending on the specific Bosch Rexroth or OEM valve stack configuration, you may be able to unbolt just the electronic actuator head, or you may need to remove the entire #2 slice from the hydraulic manifold stack.

   Install the New Part

   Bolt the new valve/actuator into the stack, ensuring all O-rings are properly seated to prevent hydraulic leaks. Torque the tie-rod bolts to OEM specifications.

   Reconnect Wiring

   Plug the electrical connector back into the new valve.

   Calibrate the Valve

   Reconnect the battery. You must use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop software or the tractor's advanced display monitor (if supported) to clear the 4114 fault code and perform a Rear Remote Valve Calibration. This teaches the EHR controller the neutral, extend, and retract limits of the new spool.
