Case IH 4117 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Remote) / Armrest Controller (ARM/IC): Rear Remote No.2 - Neutral Set point
Issue description
The control system cannot determine or validate the neutral (center) set point for the #2 rear remote valve. The system detects that either the control lever on the armrest or the valve spool itself is not resting in the expected neutral position, or the position sensor/potentiometer is sending an out-of-range or implausible signal when the system expects it to be in neutral. As a result, the controller will often place the #2 remote into a fail-safe or disabled mode.

Check the cause
Verify that the #2 remote control lever on the armrest physically returns to the exact center/neutral position without sticking or binding.
Check the wiring harness and connectors from the armrest SCV controls to the EHR controller, and from the controller to the rear remote valve block for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins.
Look for accompanying voltage codes (e.g., 4118 Under Voltage, 4119 Over Voltage) which indicate a wiring short or open circuit rather than a mechanical calibration issue.
Isolate the component by temporarily swapping the electrical connector from the #2 remote valve to the #3 remote valve. If the fault code changes to #3 (e.g., code 4131), the issue is in the armrest lever/potentiometer or wiring. If it remains on #2, the issue is at the valve block.
Repair steps
Attempt a Valve Calibration
Before replacing parts, attempt to recalibrate the EHR remote valves. On many Magnum/Steiger models, calibration is accessed via the A-post display. Hold the PROG key while turning the ignition key to the ON position. Navigate to the ARM or EHR section. The system will prompt you to pull the remote levers fully back (retract), fully forward (extend), and then let them return to neutral. Turn off the key and wait 30 seconds before restarting to test.
Replace the Armrest Potentiometer
If the calibration fails (e.g., the display shows the lever is in the lower/raise position when it is physically in neutral), the potentiometer inside the armrest lever has likely failed. You will need to open the armrest console and replace the SCV lever/potentiometer assembly.
Replace the Valve Spool Sensor / Section
If the armrest lever checks out, the fault lies at the rear remote valve block. The spool position sensor on the #2 valve may be faulty, or the main spool is sticking. Replace the sensor or the EHR remote valve section.
Recalibrate
After replacing either the armrest lever or the remote valve, you must perform the EHR calibration procedure again so the controller can learn the new neutral set point.
