4119

Case IH 4119 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Controller / Central Controller: Rear remote no. 2 - over voltage

Issue description

This fault code indicates that the voltage detected at the Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve for rear remote #2 has exceeded the maximum allowable threshold. This can be caused by an external power surge, a malfunctioning alternator, a wiring short to power, or an internal failure within the EHR valve's own circuitry.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Maxxum
  • Steiger T4B
  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Magnum Series (235-340 Series 4, MX210, MX215, MX230, MX245, MX255, MX275)
  • Puma Series (125, 140, 165, 180, 195, 210, 225 CVX)
  • Maxxum Series (100, 110, 115, 120, 125, 130, 140, MXM series)
  • Steiger Series
  • Farmall Series (115U)

Check the cause

  1. Check for external power sources connected to the battery (e.g., high-voltage jump starter or unregulated battery charger) and disconnect immediately.

  2. Test the tractor's alternator output to ensure the voltage regulator is not causing system-wide over-voltage.

  3. Inspect the CAN BUS wiring and 12V supply harness between the rear remote valves and the central controller for rubbed wires causing a short-to-power (specifically check +12V IGN and CAN HIGH/LOW pins).

  4. If charging system and wiring are normal, isolate the #2 EHR valve to confirm internal circuitry failure.

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Power Issues

Rectify any alternator overcharging issues or remove external power supplies.

  2. Clear the Code

Use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the tractor's on-board diagnostic H-menu to clear the error code.

  3. Test Operation

Cycle the tractor key and test the #2 remote for normal operation.

  4. Replace the Valve

If the code immediately returns and wiring is confirmed good, the EHR valve must be replaced. Depressurize the hydraulic system, disconnect the electrical harness, and unbolt the #2 valve slice from the rear remote stack. Install the new valve and torque to spec.

  5. Calibrate / Renumber

Perform the EHR valve renumbering procedure so the central controller recognizes the new valve on the CAN BUS. This is done either via the EST laptop or by entering the H-Menu (Mode HL) on the instrument cluster and using the remote timer switches to assign the valve to position #2.
