Case IH 4120 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote): Rear Remote No.2 - Spool Deflection Too Short

An internal valve fault, possibly mechanical, where the internal spool of the #2 rear remote valve did not travel as far as commanded by the system.

   Check Hydraulic Pressure: Ensure the system is delivering the correct hydraulic pilot pressure to the valve.

   Inspect for Mechanical Binding: Check if the spool is physically binding inside the valve body due to contamination or wear.

   Isolate the Pilot Head: The most common cause of this fault is a failing pilot head (the electronic actuator mounted on top of the remote valve) rather than the mechanical spool itself.

   Relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system before servicing the valve.

   Locate the end cover on the opposite end of the remote valve section from the pilot head assembly.

   Remove the end cover.

   Carefully save the two O-rings found under the cover so they can be reused.

   Carefully slide the main flow control spool out of the remote valve section to inspect for scoring, wear, or binding.

   If replacing the spool with the updated/improved version, lubricate the new main spool with clean hydraulic oil and reassemble the valve section.

   Reinstall the two O-rings saved from step 3.

   Tighten the six valve spool cover screws to 27–31 Nm (19–22 lb-ft).

   If replacing the pilot head assembly (mounted on top of the valve), unbolt the old unit and install the replacement.

   Crucial Step: If you change out the pilot head or valve, you must use the tractor's display or dealer diagnostic software to reassign and recalibrate the valves in the EHR system in order to make the new components work and clear the code.
