Case IH 4122 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote): Rear Remote No.2 - Open Center Position Not Reached
Issue description
The electronic controller commanded the spool valve for the #2 rear hydraulic remote to move to the open center (neutral/float) position, but the position transducer (potentiometer) on the valve reported that the spool did not physically reach that target position.
Applies to these machines
9 machines- Magnum
- Maxxum
- Steiger T4B
- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
- Magnum series
- Steiger series
- Puma series
- MX / TG series
Check the cause
Check the #2 rear remote valve spool for physical binding, debris, or contamination that could prevent the spool from physically returning to the center/float position
Inspect the electrical connector at the #2 EHR valve for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture ingress
Test the wiring harness between the EHR controller and the #2 remote valve for continuity, open circuits, or shorts to ground/power
Check for related fault codes (such as 4124 or 4125) which indicate an internal failure of the valve's electronic actuator head
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure
Ensure the tractor is off and hydraulic pressure is relieved from the system.
Inspect & Clean
Disconnect the harness from the #2 rear remote valve. Clean the connector and verify pin integrity.
Test/Replace Actuator
If diagnostics point to a failed position transducer or driver, remove the electronic actuator/potentiometer head from the #2 rear remote valve body.
Install New Part
Install the replacement EHR actuator head and reconnect the wiring harness.
Clear Codes
Turn the key on and use the tractor's display or an Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the 4122 error code.
Recalibrate the Valve
Perform the EHR Valve Spool Calibration procedure via the tractor's Pro Vision display or EST.
Operational Test
Test the #2 remote using the in-cab EHR lever to ensure it reaches the float/open center position without logging further codes.
