Case IH 4123 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) control module: Rear remote no. 2 - manually operated
Issue description
The system has detected that the spool for rear remote valve #2 is moving without an electronic command from the cab controls. This typically means the valve is being operated via the physical manual override lever on the valve block, the spool is mechanically stuck/binding, or the internal position sensor is reading unexpected movement.

Check the cause
Check for other active EHR codes (such as 4124 for a faulty driver, 4125 for a defective potentiometer, or 4126 for unable to reach neutral). Make a note of all codes, clear them, and test the system for normal operation.
Verify if the fault is still present and active. If the code clears and does not return, it may have been triggered by a user temporarily using the manual override lever.
Physically check the manual lever on rear remote valve #2 at the back of the tractor. Ensure it is not stuck, binding, or blocked by debris.
Verify that the hydraulic pressure supplied to the remote valve block is correct, as incorrect pressure is a primary failure mode for this code.
Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the EHR valve for rear remote #2. Look for damaged wiring, loose connectors, or bent pins.
Repair steps
Clear and Retest
Using the tractor's display or an Electronic Service Tool (EST), clear the 4123 fault code. Operate the rear remote #2 from the cab to see if the code returns.
Physical Inspection
If the code returns, go to the rear of the tractor and locate EHR valve #2. Ensure the manual override lever is in the neutral position and moves freely. Clean any dirt or debris packed around the spool.
Electrical Testing
Disconnect the electrical connector at the EHR valve. Ensure the connector is tight, not damaged, and the pins are in the correct position. Repair or replace the connector/wiring if damage is found.
Valve Replacement
If the manual lever is not stuck, the wiring is intact, the hydraulic pressure is within specification, and the code persists, the EHR valve itself has failed internally and must be replaced.
Calibration
After replacing the EHR valve, you must perform the EHR valve calibration and renumbering procedure using the tractor's display (often requiring diagnostic test switch tool No. 380000488) or the EST so the controller recognizes the new valve.
