Case IH 4126 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote): Rear Remote No.2 - Spool Cannot be Brought Back to Neutral
Issue description
The electronic control system has commanded the #2 rear remote hydraulic valve spool to return to its center (neutral) position, but the feedback sensor indicates that the spool has not physically returned to neutral. The system typically locks out the affected remote valve for safety.

- Maxxum
- Steiger T4B
- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
- Magnum Series

- Puma Series
- Optum Series
Check the cause
Cycle the power by restarting the tractor to reset the module and determine if the fault is active or intermittent.
Check for related electrical faults (such as code 4127 or voltage codes) that would point to a wiring harness issue rather than a mechanical valve failure.
Check if the spool is physically binding due to debris or internal wear, preventing it from returning to neutral.
Swap the electronic actuator (Pilot Head) from Remote No.2 to another working remote (like No.1 or No.3). If the fault code changes to the new remote (e.g., 4112 or 4140), the Pilot Head is the failure point. If the code remains 4126, the mechanical valve spool body is binding.
Repair steps
Relieve Hydraulic Pressure
Ensure the tractor is off, implements are lowered, and hydraulic pressure is relieved from the system.
Remove the Pilot Head
Unplug the electrical harness connector to the Remote No.2 valve. Remove the mounting screws securing the Pilot Head Assembly (the electronic actuator/solenoid cap) to the main remote valve body.
Inspect the Main Spool
Carefully inspect the main flow control spool inside the valve section for scoring, debris, or a broken centering spring. Lubricate with clean hydraulic oil.
Replace the Pilot Head
If the spool moves freely, the failure is internal to the Pilot Head's solenoids or position sensors. Install a new Pilot Head Assembly onto the valve body. Ensure O-rings are properly seated and tighten the cover screws to OEM torque specs (typically around 27-31 Nm).
Calibrate the Valve
After replacing the pilot head, run the remote valve calibration procedure through the tractor's display monitor or dealer service tool to teach the EHR module the new neutral, extend, and retract positions.
