4129

Case IH 4129 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) Control Module: Rear Remote No.3 - Implausible EHR Control Messages

Issue description

The electronic signal being transmitted between the cab control lever/switch for the #3 hydraulic remote, the control module, and the electronic pilot head on the valve itself is erratic, corrupted, or out of the expected operating parameters. The system will typically lock out the #3 remote to prevent unintended hydraulic movement.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Maxxum
  • Steiger T4B
  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Case IH Magnum Series
  • Case IH Steiger Series
  • Case IH Puma Series
  • Case IH Maxxum Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors running from the cab armrest controls to the EHR controller, and from the EHR controller to the rear remote #3 valve for rubbed wires, corrosion, or loose pins.

  2. Perform a Pilot Head Swap Test: Swap the pilot head from Remote No. 3 with a known working remote (such as No. 1 or No. 2). If the fault code changes to follow the new location (e.g., throws code 4101 for Remote No. 1), the pilot head is definitively faulty. If the code remains 4129, the issue lies upstream in the wiring harness or the cab control switch/lever.

  3. Check the physical operation of the #3 remote lever/switch in the cab. Jerky or failing potentiometers in the armrest can send implausible signals to the EHR.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect battery power to protect the EHR modules.

  2. Remove the Pilot Head

Disconnect the wiring harness from the #3 remote valve pilot head. Remove the retaining hardware securing the electronic pilot head to the mechanical valve body and remove the unit.

  3. Install the New Part

Install the replacement pilot head onto the valve body and torque the fasteners to spec. Reconnect the wiring harness.

  4. Reassign Valve Addresses

Power the tractor back on. You must use the tractor's display monitor or the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to reassign the valve addresses. This tells the EHR controller which physical lever corresponds to the newly installed pilot head.

  5. Calibrate the Valve

Perform the EHR remote valve calibration procedure. This tunes the valve for proper spool movement and flow control.
