Case IH 4130 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote): Rear Remote No.3 - Checksum Verification Failure
Issue description
The internal memory (EEPROM) of the electronic actuator for the #3 rear hydraulic remote valve has failed a self-check, contains corrupted data, or has lost its calibration/configuration data.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- Maxxum
- Steiger T4B
- MAXXUM T4E
- Magnum
- Magnum series
- STX Steiger series
- Puma series
Check the cause
Check for related voltage codes for Remote No. 3 (such as 4132 Under Voltage or 4133 Over Voltage) which could indicate a wiring issue rather than a failed EEPROM.
Disconnect the electrical connector at the #3 rear remote valve and inspect for moisture, corrosion, or damaged pins that can cause data communication errors.
Swap the electrical connection/actuator from Remote No. 3 with an adjacent remote (like No. 2 or No. 4) to isolate the fault. If the code changes to the new location, the actuator is internally failed. If it remains 4130, the issue is in the wiring harness or main EHR controller.
Attempt to clear the fault and recalibrate the remote valves using the in-cab AFS display or the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST).
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, and turn off the engine. Turn the key back to the ON position (engine off) and actuate the remote levers to relieve all hydraulic pressure in the system.
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the rear remote valve stack with brake cleaner or a pressure washer to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Remove the Faulty Component
Disconnect the electrical harness from the #3 remote valve. Depending on the specific valve generation, you will either remove the screws securing the electronic actuator head to the valve body, or you will need to loosen the valve stack tie-rods to remove the entire #3 valve slice.
Install the New Part
Install the new EHR actuator or valve slice. Ensure all O-rings are lightly lubricated with clean hydraulic oil and correctly seated.
Reassembly
If the stack was separated, re-torque the valve stack tie-rods to the exact OEM specification to prevent spool binding or leaks.
Reconnect
Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery.
Calibration
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST). You must perform a hydraulic remote valve calibration so the main EHR controller can write the correct configuration data to the new valve's EEPROM.
