Case IH 4137 – EHR (Electro Hydraulic Remote) / ATC (Armrest/Tractor Controller): Rear Remote No. 3 - Manual Operation
Issue description
This code triggers when the system detects that the spool for rear remote valve #3 has been moved manually via the mechanical override on the valve block, or the internal position transducer (potentiometer) inside the valve's actuator detects spool movement that was not commanded by the cab controls. Usually indicates a failure inside the proportional actuator/pilot head or a mechanically sticking spool.
Applies to these machines
9 machines- Maxxum
- Steiger T4B
- MAXXUM T4E
- Magnum
- Magnum Series
- Steiger Series
- Puma Series
- Maxxum Series
- Farmall Series
Check the cause
Visually inspect the physical remote valve block at the rear of the tractor to ensure the manual override lever/knob on valve #3 is in the neutral position and not physically stuck or bound by debris.
Disconnect the 4-pin electrical connector at the remote #3 actuator and inspect for water intrusion, bent pins, or corroded terminals.
Perform an actuator swap test by swapping the proportional actuator (pilot head) from remote #3 with the actuator from remote #4. Clear the codes and operate the hydraulics. If the fault code changes to 4151, the actuator is definitively faulty. If the code remains 4137, the issue is either in the tractor's wiring harness or the main spool inside valve #3 is mechanically binding.
With the actuator removed, verify that the main spool moves freely. If it is scored or sticking, the valve section itself will need to be rebuilt or replaced.
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground, and turn off the engine. Cycle the remote levers/switches in the cab to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure.
Access the Valve Stack
Locate the rear remote valve stack and identify section #3. Clean the exterior of the valve thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Remove the Actuator
Disconnect the electrical harness from the proportional actuator on valve #3. Remove the mounting bolts securing the actuator to the valve body.
Inspect Components
Carefully pull the actuator away from the valve. Check the O-rings and the mechanical linkage pin.
Install the New Actuator
If the actuator failed the swap test, install a new proportional actuator. Ensure the new O-rings are properly seated on the mounting plate.
Reassembly
Torque the actuator mounting bolts to OEM specifications and reconnect the 4-pin electrical harness.
Calibration
Start the tractor and allow the hydraulic oil to reach operating temperature. Access the tractor's display monitor (e.g., Pro 1200 or AFS display) and perform the EHR (Electro Hydraulic Remote) calibration procedure. This is required so the controller can learn the new actuator's exact neutral and end-of-stroke positions.
