Case IH 4145 – EHR (Electronic Hydraulic Remote): Rear remote no. 4 - switched to failsafe
Issue description
The electronic controller has detected an anomaly or failure in the #4 rear remote valve (such as an inability to reach neutral, voltage irregularities, or implausible control messages). To prevent unintended hydraulic operation or damage, the system locks the #4 remote into a failsafe (neutral) mode.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- Maxxum
- MAXXUM T4E
- Steiger Series
- Quadtrac
- Magnum Series
- Puma Series
- Maxxum Series
- Optum Series
Check the cause
Power cycle the tractor to see if the failsafe lockup clears temporarily
Inspect cab switches, remote fender switches, and the EHR control valve wire harness for visible damage, shorts, or loose connections
Check if the EHR valve has been properly calibrated and perform the calibration procedure
Verify the tractor has the latest software level downloaded to the controller if calibration fails
Repair steps
Relieve all hydraulic pressure from the tractor's system.
Locate the #4 rear remote valve on the rear hydraulic valve stack.
Disconnect the electrical harness from the #4 EHR pilot head.
Unbolt and remove the faulty pilot head from the remote valve body.
Install the new pilot head and torque the mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
Reconnect the electrical harness.
Perform the EHR valve calibration procedure using the tractor's display or an Electronic Service Tool.
This is a crucial step so the controller can learn the new pilot head's neutral and travel limits.
