Case IH 4150 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote): Rear Remote No.4 - Open Center Position Not Reached
Issue description
This code indicates that the spool inside the #4 rear hydraulic remote valve is failing to return to its neutral, open-center, or float position when commanded, or the position sensor (transducer) is failing to detect that the spool has reached this position.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- Magnum
- Maxxum
- Steiger T4B
- MAXXUM T4E
- Magnum Series
- Steiger Series
- Puma Series
- Maxxum Series
Check the cause
Check for accompanying EHR codes on the #4 remote (e.g., 4151, 4152, 4153, 4154). If 4153 is present, the issue is almost certainly the sensor/potentiometer.
Inspect the #4 remote lever or spool mechanically to see if it is physically jammed, binding, or restricted by debris.
Inspect the electrical connector and wiring harness at the #4 EHR valve at the rear of the tractor for corrosion, bent pins, or wire chafing.
Attempt an EHR valve calibration using the tractor's display (H-menu) or the Case IH Electronic Service Tool to see if the controller simply needs to relearn the neutral/center set point.
Repair steps
Safety First
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic pressure by cycling the remote levers/buttons before working on the valve stack.
Access the Valve Stack
Locate the rear remote valve stack at the rear of the tractor and identify the #4 valve section.
Electrical Testing
Disconnect the harness to the #4 valve. Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the position transducer and the solenoid coils against OEM specifications.
Mechanical Inspection
If the electronics test fine, carefully remove the end cap of the #4 spool valve. Inspect the centering spring mechanism. A broken centering spring will physically prevent the spool from returning to the open center position.
Replace the Faulty Component
If the centering spring is broken, install a new spring kit. If the position transducer is failed, replace the transducer cap/sensor. If the spool is heavily scored or the internal valve driver has failed, the entire EHR valve section must be replaced.
Reassembly
Reinstall the valve components, reconnect the wiring harness, and top off the hydraulic fluid if any was lost during disassembly.
Calibration
You must perform an EHR valve calibration using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (or onboard diagnostic menu) so the EHR module can learn the new neutral/open center position of the replaced parts.
