Case IH 4153 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) controller: Rear remote no. 4 - internal position sensor faulty

The control module has detected an electrical fault, out-of-range signal, or failure of the internal position sensor (potentiometer) that monitors the spool position inside the #4 rear hydraulic remote valve.

   Check for related EHR error codes (such as voltage or CAN communication faults) to rule out broader harness or controller issues

   Inspect the 4-pin connector at the #4 rear remote valve pilot head to ensure it is fully seated, undamaged, and pins are tight

   Test the circuit between the position sensor connector and the EHR ECU for continuity, short circuits to ground, or open circuits

   Isolate the component to confirm if the failure is internal to the spool position potentiometer

   Remove the faulty component

   Disconnect the electrical connector and unbolt the faulty pilot head (proportional actuator) from the top of the #4 remote valve body.

   Install the replacement

   Mount the new pilot head valve assembly onto the valve body and reconnect the 4-pin electrical harness.

   Reassign valve addresses

   Once the new pilot head is installed, you must use the tractor's display/controller to reassign the valve addresses so the EHR controller knows which cab lever controls the newly installed valve head.

   Calibrate the valve

   Perform the hydraulic valve calibration procedure. This tunes the valve for proper function and flow control.

   Clear codes

   Clear the 4153 error code from the EHR module and test the #4 remote for normal operation.
