Case IH 4155 – EHR (Electronic Hitch / Hydraulic Remote) Controller / ATC (Armrest / Tractor Controller): Rear Remote No.4 - Spool Not in Neutral When Switched On

Triggers when the tractor is keyed on and the controller detects that the spool for the #4 electro-hydraulic remote (EHR) valve is not resting in its center/neutral position, causing the system to lock out the #4 remote valve as a safety precaution.

   Check the manual override or thumb screw on the remote valve to ensure it is not physically locked or tied back.

   Inspect the electrical connectors on the #4 valve block (often located beneath the cab) for mud, moisture, and corrosion.

   Check for other pending or active EHR fault codes (such as voltage or communication errors) that might indicate a wiring harness issue rather than a mechanical valve failure.

   Assess if multiple remotes are throwing faults simultaneously, which may indicate a software issue requiring a reflash of the armrest controller.

   Clear and Retest

   Clear the error code(s) from the system memory and test the #4 remote for normal operation.

   Calibrate the Valve

   Perform the EHR lever and valve calibration procedure via the tractor's display monitor. A successful calibration can sometimes re-center the spool parameters.

   Replace the Pilot Head

   If the calibration fails, or if the fault returns shortly after calibration, remove the faulty pilot head from the #4 valve section and install a new one.

   Inspect the Main Spool

   If replacing the pilot head does not resolve the issue, remove the end cover (saving the O-rings), pull the main spool, and either clean/lubricate it or replace it with an updated spool cartridge.
