Case IH 4158 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote): Rear Remote No.5 - Checksum Verification Failure

The internal memory (EEPROM) inside the electronic control module for the #5 rear remote valve has failed a checksum verification, indicating corrupted data or a hardware failure.

   Verify tractor battery and charging system voltage. Low voltage or severe voltage spikes can corrupt EEPROM data during startup or shutdown.

   Perform a hard reset: Clear the fault code, turn the key OFF, wait for the system to completely power down, and turn the key back ON. If the code returns immediately, it is a hard internal failure.

   Attempt to run the rear remote valve calibration procedure through the tractor's display. If the module has lost its calibration data but the hardware is intact, a successful calibration may resolve the checksum error.

   Depressurize the System

   Turn off the tractor and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the rear remotes by moving the levers/controls through all positions.

   Access the Valve Stack

   Locate the rear remote valve block at the rear of the tractor. Identify valve slice No. 5.

   Inspect the Harness

   Disconnect the electrical connector to remote No. 5. Inspect for water intrusion, corrosion, or damaged pins, which can sometimes short the CAN network and cause module errors.

   Replace the Valve/Actuator

   If the harness is clean, the electronic actuator head (or the entire valve slice) must be replaced. Unbolt the tie-rods or mounting bolts holding the valve stack together, remove slice No. 5, and install the replacement.

   Recalibrate

   Once the new valve is installed and plugged in, turn the key ON. You must perform the EHR Rear Remote Calibration procedure using the tractor's display or electronic service tool so the EHR controller can learn the new valve's neutral and spool deflection limits.

   Clear Codes

   Clear code 4158 and verify proper operation of the No. 5 remote.
