Case IH 4163 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote): Rear Remote No.5 - Spool Deflection Excessive

The internal spool of the #5 rear hydraulic remote valve is traveling beyond its expected or commanded position, or the position transducer is reading an out-of-bounds deflection. This typically results in the tractor's computer locking out the hydraulic functions for that remote until the machine is restarted.

   Check for accompanying EHR codes on Remote #5, such as under/over voltage (4160/4161), position transducer faults (4167), or calibration errors (4170)

   Recalibrate the EHR System using the tractor's display or the Electronic Service Tool to perform an EHR lever and valve calibration

   Clear the error code from the memory and test the system for normal operation to see if the fault is a hard failure or an intermittent glitch

   Inspect the EHR control valve wiring harness for shorts, corrosion, or damage

   Replace the Pilot Head

   Replace the pilot head (the electronic actuator module bolted to the top/end of the remote valve slice). This often resolves spool movement and neutral-return codes.

   Replace the Valve Section

   If the position transducer (which is often integrated) or the mechanical spool itself is damaged, replace the entire #5 EHR valve section (slice).

   Perform Post-Repair Calibration

   If the EHR control unit, pilot head, or valve section is replaced, you must perform the EHR calibration procedure before the remote will function properly.
