Case IH 4172 – DU Module: Rear EHR Control No.1 - Short Circuit (DU Module Only)

This fault code indicates that the system has detected a short circuit in the electrical control circuit for the Rear Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve No. 1.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the DU module (armrest) to the rear EHR valve block for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation.

   Disconnect the electrical connector at the Rear EHR Valve No. 1 and turn the key ON. If the code changes to 4171 (Open Circuit), the short is internal to the EHR valve solenoid. If it remains 4172, the short is in the wiring harness or DU module.

   Inspect the EHR control lever/joystick on the armrest for physical damage or liquid intrusion.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery before servicing the electrical system.

   Repair/Replace Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks point to the harness, locate the shorted section. Repair the damaged wires using proper weather-sealed connectors, or replace the EHR Control Valve Wire Harness entirely if the damage is extensive.

   Replace the EHR Valve

   If the short is internal to the valve, remove the retaining bolts for EHR Valve No. 1 on the rear hydraulic block. Install the new valve section and torque to OEM specifications.

   Reassemble and Power Up

   Reconnect all electrical connections and the battery.

   Calibrate the System

   After replacing the valve or repairing the circuit, the system will likely throw code 4170 (Rear EHR Control No.1 - Not Calibrated). You must enter the tractor's 'H Menu' (Calibration Menu) via the instrument cluster or Pro monitor to perform the EHR valve calibration procedure.
