Case IH 4175 – DU Module: Rear EHR control No.2 - short circuit (DU module only)

Issue description

The system has detected a short circuit (either to ground or to battery voltage) in the electrical circuit controlling the #2 rear electro-hydraulic remote valve.

Applies to these machines

  • Maxxum
  • Maxxum series
  • Puma series
  • Magnum series
  • Steiger series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness running from the DU module/armrest to the rear EHR valve No. 2 for any signs of chafing, melting, or pinched wires that could cause a short to ground or battery voltage.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector at the No. 2 rear EHR valve and check for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins that could bridge the circuit.

  3. Measure the resistance of the EHR valve No. 2 solenoid with a multimeter to determine if the internal coil is shorted.

  4. Check the EHR control switch/potentiometer on the armrest to ensure the short is not originating from a failed physical switch.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Always disconnect the tractor's battery before performing electrical repairs to prevent further module damage.

  2. Repair Wiring

If a short is found in the harness during the diagnostic phase, repair the damaged section of the wire and secure it in a protective loom away from pinch points.

  3. Replace Faulty Component

If the short is internal to the EHR valve solenoid, replace the solenoid or the entire EHR valve assembly. If the short is in the armrest control switch, replace the switch unit.

  4. Reassemble and Reconnect

Reconnect all harnesses and the battery.

  5. Recalibrate the EHR System

After replacing an EHR valve or repairing the circuit, the system must be recalibrated through the tractor's Pro monitor or armrest diagnostic menu to relearn the spool positions.
