Case IH 4176 – DU Module: Rear EHR timer switch no.1/no.2 - not connected (DU module only)
Issue description
The Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote (EHR) system uses timer switches to adjust the flow and trip-out time of the rear hydraulic remote ports. This code triggers when the control module detects an open circuit, a disconnected plug, or a complete loss of communication from the specific timer switch that controls rear remotes No. 1 and No. 2.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the EHR timer switch for remotes 1 and 2 inside the armrest console.
Check for a loose, unplugged, or corroded connector at the base of the switch.
Test the wiring harness for continuity between the switch plug and the DU (Armrest) module to rule out a broken wire.
Test the switch itself for proper resistance/continuity as the knob is turned to verify internal functionality.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical damage.
Access the Armrest
Remove the retaining screws to lift the cover/panel of the armrest console where the hydraulic remote timer knobs are located.
Inspect and Reconnect
Locate the specific switch for remotes No. 1 and No. 2. If the connector has vibrated loose, plug it back in securely, reassemble, and test.
Remove Faulty Switch
If the wiring is intact but the switch failed testing, disconnect the electrical harness plug from the switch. Remove the retaining nut or mounting clips holding the switch to the armrest panel.
Install New Part
Insert the replacement EHR timer switch into the panel and secure it. Plug the electrical harness connector into the new switch.
Reassemble
Carefully reinstall the armrest covers, ensuring no wires are pinched in the process.
Clear Codes and Calibrate
Reconnect the battery and turn the key on. Use the AFS Pro display (or dealer diagnostic tool) to clear the inactive 4176 fault code.
Functional Test
Test the hydraulic remote timer function by turning the knob and verifying that the trip-out time for remotes 1 and 2 adjusts correctly on the display.
