Case IH 4180 – EHR (Electronic Hitch Remote): Rear EHR control no.4 - not calibrated (DU module only) / Rear Remote No.4 - Lever Not Calibrated
Issue description
The electronic controller has lost the stored calibration values (potentiometer voltage limits) for the number 4 rear remote hydraulic lever or spool valve, or the valve has never been successfully calibrated.
Applies to these machines
9 machines- Magnum
- Maxxum
- Steiger T4B
- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
- Magnum series
- Steiger series
- Puma series
- Maxxum series
Check the cause
Check for related circuit codes (4181 open circuit or 4182 short circuit). If present, fix the wiring harness or replace the faulty lever potentiometer first, as calibration will fail.
Ensure the tractor's hydraulic fluid is brought up to normal operating temperature, as cold oil can cause calibration procedures to fail or set incorrect values.
Verify that the #4 rear remote lever moves freely through its entire range of motion (extend, retract, and float detents) without physical binding.
Repair steps
Prepare the tractor
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and ensure no implements are connected to the rear remotes.
Warm up hydraulic oil
Start the engine and allow the hydraulic oil to reach operating temperature.
Enter calibration menu
Enter the tractor's "HH" calibration menu via the instrument cluster (using the "h" and "m" keys) or via the AFS Pro display / Electronic Service Tool (EST).
Navigate to EHR calibration
Navigate to the calibration menu for the EHR (Electronic Hitch / Rear Remotes).
Select valve channel
Select the channel for Rear Remote Valve No. 4.
Calibrate the lever
Follow the on-screen prompts to calibrate the lever. This typically requires moving the #4 remote lever to its maximum extend position, maximum retract position, float position, and back to neutral so the controller can learn the minimum and maximum potentiometer voltages.
Save and cycle power
Save the calibration and cycle the key switch to store the values.
Test operation
Test the #4 remote to ensure the fault code has cleared and the valve operates correctly.
Parts you might need
(2)Rear Remote Lever Potentiometer / EHR Control Switch
Replaces the physical lever unit in the armrest if the internal sensor has failed.
Electrohydraulic Remote Valve Section (EHR Spool)
Replaces the actual valve slice at the rear of the tractor if the internal spool position transducer has failed.
