Case IH 4183 – DU Module: Rear EHR timer switch no.3/no.4 - not connected (DU module only)

The control module is detecting an open circuit, meaning the controller has lost electrical continuity or communication with the specific timer switch/potentiometer on the armrest that controls the flow timing for rear auxiliary remotes #3 and #4.

   Visually inspect the physical connection of the timer switch for rear remotes #3 and #4 on the armrest console

   Inspect the wiring harness running between the timer switch and the DU Module for breaks, chafing, or disconnected plugs

   Check the connectors at the switch and the module for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or debris

   Use a multimeter to test the timer switch (potentiometer) for internal continuity to verify if it has failed internally

   Check for related codes (such as 4176 or 4177-4182) which may indicate a shared ground failure or a larger harness disconnect rather than a single switch failure

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the armrest controller.

   Access the Switch

   Disassemble the necessary trim panels on the armrest control console to access the underside of the EHR timer switches.

   Disconnect and Inspect

   Unplug the wiring harness connector from the timer switch for remotes #3 and #4. Inspect the terminals for damage.

   Test the Circuit

   Perform a continuity test on the wiring harness from the switch connector back to the DU Module. If a wire is broken, repair the wiring harness.

   Replace the Switch

   If the wiring harness tests good, the fault lies within the switch itself (internal open circuit). Remove the faulty timer switch from the armrest bezel and install the replacement switch.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the wiring harness to the new switch and reassemble the armrest console.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition key on, and clear the stored fault codes. Test the timer function for rear remotes #3 and #4 to ensure the DU module registers the switch inputs.
