4190

Case IH 4190 – EHR (Electronic Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Rear remote no. 1 - no communications

Issue description

The main vehicle controller is no longer receiving CAN bus communication messages from the Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve number 1.

Applies to these machines

  • Maxxum
  • Steiger T4B
  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Magnum
  • Case IH Magnum
  • Case IH Puma
  • Case IH Steiger

Check the cause

  1. Verify the integrity of the CAN bus network leading to the rear remote stack

  2. Inspect the electrical connector at the Rear Remote No. 1 EHR valve (often labeled X307) for pushed pins, corrosion, or moisture

  3. Check the wiring harness for chafing, breaks, or shorts to ground/power between the EHR module and the valve

  4. If the harness and connectors test good, evaluate the internal electronics of the EHR valve itself

Repair steps

  1. Inspect the Connection

Locate Rear Remote Valve No. 1 at the rear hydraulic stack. Disconnect the electrical harness and inspect the pins. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary and reconnect.

  2. Test the Harness

Using a multimeter, verify power, ground, and CAN High/CAN Low continuity from the main controller harness to the valve connector.

  3. Replace the Valve

If wiring is intact and communication cannot be established, the EHR valve must be replaced.

  4. Clear Codes and Calibrate

After rectifying the wiring or replacing the valve, use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the tractor's diagnostic monitor to clear the fault code.

  5. Spool Calibration

Perform the EHR spool calibration procedure via the tractor's display before normal operation can resume.
