4195

Case IH 4195 – DU Module: Rear EHR no.2 motor mode switch faulty (DU module only)

Issue description

This code indicates a malfunction in the motor mode switch for the #2 rear Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR). The system has detected an invalid signal, open circuit, or short circuit from the switch that controls the continuous flow/motor mode for the second rear remote valve.

Applies to these machines

  • Maxxum
  • Puma
  • Magnum
  • Steiger
  • T6
  • T7
  • T8

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the physical condition of the #2 rear remote control lever and motor mode switch on the armrest console for physical damage, sticking, or debris.

  2. Access the wiring beneath the armrest console. Inspect the electrical connector at the #2 EHR switch and trace the harness back to the DU module. Look for pinched wires, corrosion, or loose pins.

  3. Look for related communication codes (e.g., 4191 - Rear remote no.2 - no communications). If communication codes are present, the issue is likely in the CAN bus harness rather than the switch itself.

  4. If the design of your specific armrest allows, temporarily swap the electrical connection of the #2 EHR switch with the #1 or #3 switch. If the fault code changes to 4194 (No.1 switch) or 4196 (No.3 switch), the switch itself is confirmed faulty.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts or accidental module damage.

  2. Access the Console

Remove the retaining screws and carefully lift the armrest console cover or the specific trim panel surrounding the EHR remote levers.

  3. Disconnect

Locate the #2 EHR lever assembly (often color-coded, e.g., blue or green depending on the remote number). Disconnect its electrical harness connector.

  4. Remove the Switch

Unbolt or unclip the faulty EHR lever/motor mode switch assembly from the console bracket.

  5. Install the New Part

Seat the new EHR lever assembly into the bracket and secure it.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the electrical harness into the new switch, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

  7. Reassemble

Reinstall the armrest console cover and trim panels.

  8. Clear Codes & Test

Reconnect the battery and power on the tractor. Use the tractor's diagnostic display or an Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the inactive 4195 fault code. Test the #2 rear remote in motor mode to verify proper operation.
