Case IH 4196 – DU Module / Armrest Controller: Rear EHR No.3 Motor Mode Switch Faulty (DU Module Only)

Failure in the circuit for the Rear Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) No. 3 motor mode switch. The controller is receiving an open circuit, short circuit, or implausible signal from the switch, preventing the system from determining the correct operating mode for that specific remote valve.

   Inspect the EHR No. 3 motor mode switch on the armrest console for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing full travel.

   Enter the tractor's diagnostic 'H menu' (or use the Electronic Service Tool - EST). Monitor switch input 'd97' (EHR No. 3 program/motor mode switch). When the switch is toggled, the display should register the change and emit an audible tone.

   While monitoring the diagnostic screen or listening for the tone, perform a 'wiggle test' on the wiring harness beneath the armrest to check for intermittent connections, loose pins, or chafed wires.

   Swap the EHR No. 3 switch with the EHR No. 1 or No. 2 switch. If the fault code changes to 4194 (EHR No. 1) or 4195 (EHR No. 2), the switch itself has failed. If the code remains 4196, the issue is in the wiring harness or the armrest controller.
