Case IH 4199 – Armrest Controller (ARM) or Transmission / EHR Controller: Joystick detected but selection switch not detected

The control module is successfully communicating with the main joystick assembly on the CAN bus (or via main analog inputs), but the circuit for the specific selection switch is reading as an open circuit or is missing entirely.

   Open the armrest console and inspect the wiring harness running from the joystick to the Armrest Controller for pinched wires, chafing, or loose/backed-out pins at the connector.

   Disconnect the joystick harness and use a multimeter to test the selection switch for continuity. The circuit should close when pressed; if it reads open, the switch has failed internally.

   Navigate to the Armrest Controller (ARM) diagnostic screen on the onboard diagnostic display (or AFS Pro monitor) and monitor the switch status live to see if the controller receives the signal when pressed.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Joystick

   Remove the mounting screws securing the armrest console cover to expose the base of the joystick and the Armrest Controller wiring.

   Disconnect the Harness

   Unplug the electrical connector linking the joystick to the armrest harness.

   Remove the Switch/Joystick

   If replacing just the switch: Carefully pry or unscrew the joystick handle casing to access the internal push-button switch. Remove the retaining screws and swap the switch. If replacing the whole joystick: Unbolt the joystick base from the armrest mounting bracket and remove the entire assembly.

   Reassembly

   Install the new switch or joystick assembly. Reconnect the wiring harness, ensuring the connector clicks securely into place.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and navigate to the fault code menu on the instrument cluster or AFS display. Hold the INCR and DECR keys (or follow your specific display's prompt) to clear the stored 4199 fault code.

   Test

   Actuate the selection switch to verify the function engages and the fault code does not return.
