Case IH 4206 - ARU – ARU: EHR Joystick position error
Issue description
The controller is receiving an implausible, out-of-range, or erratic voltage signal from the joystick's internal potentiometers or encoders (typically the X or Y axis). The system detects a mismatch between the commanded physical position of the joystick and the electrical sensor reading, or it detects an open/short circuit in the potentiometer sweep.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- Case IH CVX Series
- Case IH Puma Series
- Case IH Magnum Series
- Case IH Steiger / STX Series
Check the cause
Check the EHR joystick on the armrest for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing it from smoothly returning to the dead-center neutral position.
Remove the armrest cover and inspect the wiring harness and connector at the base of the joystick. Look for loose pins, corrosion, or burnt PCB traces.
Use the tractor's diagnostic menu (via the Pro 700 / Pro 1200 display) or a multimeter to monitor the voltage/potentiometer sweep of the joystick. The voltage should sweep smoothly without dropouts as you move the joystick through its X and Y axes.
Before replacing parts, attempt to recalibrate the EHR joystick via the tractor's display monitor to see if the ARU can relearn the neutral and extreme positions.
Repair steps
Prep the Machine
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts to the ARU.
Access the ARU
Remove the retaining screws on the Multicontroller armrest console to lift the top cover and access the internal electronics.
Disconnect
Carefully unplug the electrical harness connector leading to the EHR joystick module.
Remove the Joystick
Remove the mounting screws holding the joystick assembly to the armrest frame and pull the faulty unit out.
Install the New Part
Seat the new OEM joystick module into the armrest and secure it with the mounting screws.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical harness back into the new joystick, ensuring the connector clicks into place securely.
Reassemble
Reinstall the armrest cover and reconnect the tractor's battery.
Calibrate
Power on the tractor. You must perform the EHR joystick calibration procedure via the display monitor or dealer diagnostic tool. This teaches the ARU the new neutral, maximum extend, and maximum retract voltage values for the new potentiometers.
