Issue description

The control system is sending a CAN bus command to the EHR 1 pilot head to move the hydraulic spool to a specific position, but either the feedback sensor reports the spool has not reached the commanded position, or there is a CAN message counter error indicating corrupted, missing, or timing out data packets.

Check the cause

  1. Check for accompanying CAN communication codes on the AFS Pro display (e.g., 'EHR 1 Offline Err' or 'No Communication Rear Remotes') to rule out a main CAN harness issue.

  2. Inspect the electrical connector and harness at the EHR 1 pilot head for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins.

  3. Perform a swap test by exchanging the EHR 1 pilot head with a known good remote (e.g., EHR 2) to isolate the failure to the pilot head, mechanical spool, or tractor wiring.

  4. Check hydraulic pressure, oil level, and filters to ensure adequate pilot pressure is available to move the spool.

  5. Attempt to recalibrate the remote valves through the tractor's display (Pro 700 / Pro 1200).

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and cycle the remote levers in the cab to relieve all hydraulic pressure.

  2. Clean the Area

    Thoroughly wash and blow off the rear remote valve stack. Dirt ingress during this repair will cause immediate failure of the new components.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

    Unplug the CAN/power harness from the EHR 1 pilot head.

  4. Remove the Pilot Head

    Remove the Allen/Torx screws securing the electronic pilot head to the mechanical valve body. Carefully lift the pilot head off, taking care not to lose the internal spring or pin assembly.

  5. Inspect the Spool

    Manually check if the mechanical spool moves freely. If it is scored or seized, the entire valve slice must be replaced. If it moves freely, only the pilot head needs replacement.

  6. Installation

    Install the new pilot head (or complete valve slice). Ensure all O-rings are properly seated.

  7. Torque

    Tighten the mounting screws evenly to OEM specifications (do not overtighten, as this can bind the spool).

  8. Reassembly

    Reconnect the electrical harness.

  9. Calibration

    Start the tractor, bring the hydraulic oil up to operating temperature, and navigate to the EHR calibration screen on the cab display. Run the automated calibration procedure so the controller can learn the new valve's feedback limits.

  10. Testing

    Connect an implement and verify that EHR 1 operates smoothly without throwing faults or leaking.
