Case IH 4216-17 - DEC – Transmission Controller (TCU) / EHR: Transmission reverse clutch solenoid minimum calibration current limit exceeded / Rear Remote No.1 - Valve Spool Not Calibrated
Issue description
The transmission controller measured a current from the reverse clutch solenoid circuit that was higher than the set limit during calibration, indicating the circuit is shorted to power or a parameter is out of range. Note: In Case IH systems, code 4216 can also indicate Rear Remote No.1 - Valve Spool Not Calibrated.
Applies to these machines
2 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Case IH Magnum series (e.g., Magnum 235 - 340 Series 4)
Check the cause
Remove the controller cover from the rear of the tractor. Visually inspect the wiring harness routing from the transmission controller towards the solenoids under the cab for abnormal routing, wire chafing, or damage.
Disconnect connectors C350 and C355 from the transmission controller and measure resistance across the reverse clutch solenoid circuit cavities to check for a short to power or ground.
Ensure the transmission oil and transmission components are fully warmed up before attempting to run the calibration procedure.
Verify that the transmission clutch modulating valves are correctly torqued (make sure the valves are cool when checking torque).
Repair steps
Repair Wiring
If the resistance test reveals a short to power or an open circuit, repair or replace the damaged section of the transmission wiring harness.
Replace Solenoid
If the wiring is intact but the solenoid fails electrical testing, or if worn seals are causing leakage, remove and replace the transmission reverse clutch modulating valve (solenoid).
Energize New Valve
If a new transmission clutch modulating valve is installed, you must shift the transmission at least 12 times into a speed or direction that uses that specific valve (Reverse) to ensure it is sufficiently energized and pressurized.
Recalibrate
Run the transmission clutch fill calibration procedure again. Allow sufficient time for the corresponding clutch to be fully pressurized. (Note: If dealing with the Case IH 4216 EHR code, simply run the calibration procedure for the Rear Remote No. 1 valve spool via the tractor's display).
