Case IH 4216 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) module or ATC (Armrest Tractor Controller): Rear Remote No.1 - Valve Spool Not Calibrated

Issue description

The electronic control system does not have a valid, saved calibration for the spool position of the first rear remote hydraulic valve, preventing the system from accurately determining the neutral, extend, or retract positions of the valve.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Steiger T4B
  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Case IH Magnum series (e.g., 235-340 Series 4)
  • Case IH STX Steiger series (350-600 HP)
  • Case IH Maxxum series
  • Case IH Puma series

Check the cause

  1. Verify the physical position of the Remote No.1 lever/switch on the armrest. Ensure it is not physically stuck and returns freely to the neutral position.

  2. Check the armrest lever potentiometer. A failing potentiometer in the armrest control lever is a very common cause for calibration failures or uncalibrated codes.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the armrest controller, the EHR controller, and the rear remote valve block for damage or loose connections.

Repair steps

  1. Park the tractor on a level surface, apply the parking brake, and ensure no implements are connected to the rear remotes.

  2. Enter calibration mode.

On models with A-post instrument clusters, this is often done by holding the 'PROG' (Program) key while turning the ignition key to the ON position (without starting the engine). On other models, a diagnostic connector tool is plugged in, and the instrument panel will display 'HH' to indicate the 'H' menu is active.

  3. Navigate to the 'ARM' (Armrest) section or the 'H1' menu for EHR calibration.

  4. Select the calibration for Remote Valve No. 1.

  5. Pull the lever fully back into the raise/retract detent position.

The system will prompt you to move the remote lever.

  6. Push the lever fully forward into the lower/extend detent position.

  7. Return the lever to the center/neutral position.

  8. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position and wait at least 30 seconds before restarting.

This allows the controller to save the new calibration values.

  9. Replace the armrest lever potentiometer or the proportional valve actuator on the remote valve itself if necessary.

Perform this if the calibration fails to save or the code returns immediately, as these components are likely defective.
