Case IH 43 – TMF (Tractor Multi-Function) controller or ATC (Armrest Controller Module): No Draft pin(s) detected but the Armrest controller specified tractor with draft control.

Issue description

Fault code 43 indicates a configuration mismatch or a complete loss of signal from the draft pin sensors. The tractor's Armrest Controller is programmed to operate with electronic draft control (EDC), but the controller cannot detect the presence of the draft sensing pins. This usually means the sensors have failed, the wiring harness is disconnected or damaged, or the armrest controller is incorrectly configured for a tractor that does not actually have draft control.

Check the cause

  1. Verify tractor configuration to determine if the machine is actually equipped with draft control, ruling out a configuration mismatch

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the left and right draft pin sensors at the lower link arms for moisture intrusion, cut wires, or corrosion

  3. Test the 3-pin connector voltages at the draft pins (Pin C supplies power, Pin B is the signal input to the controller, and Pin A is the ground)

Repair steps

  1. Reconfigure to Position-Only Hitch

    If draft control is not needed, enter the armrest controller calibration/programming mode. Navigate to the hitch configuration menu. Change the setting from 'Draft' to 'No Draft'. Save the configuration and exit calibration. The hitch will now function as a position-only hitch and Code 43 will clear.

  2. Install a Draft Pin Elimination Kit

    If the pins are dead and you do not need draft control, purchase a Draft Load Sensing Pin Elimination Kit. Locate the triangular electrical connectors for the draft pins under the rear of the cab. Unplug the faulty draft pins and plug the elimination modules directly into the tractor's wiring harness. Secure the modules with zip ties. This tricks the computer into thinking working pins are present.

  3. Replace the Draft Pin Sensors

    To restore full draft control, disconnect the wiring harness from the faulty draft pin(s). Support the lower link arm and remove the retaining hardware holding the draft pin in place. Remove the old draft pin and install the new OEM draft pin sensor. Reinstall the retaining hardware and reconnect the wiring harness. Clear the fault codes and perform a hitch calibration procedure to ensure the new sensors are recognized and zeroed out.
