Case IH 4304 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Controller / Auxiliary Valve Controller (for 4304) or Hitch / EDC (Electronic Draft Control) Controller (for 1103): Rear Remote No. 6 - Neutral Set point (4304) / Side link switch faulted (1103)
Issue description
Code 4304: The controller is not receiving a valid neutral set-point signal from the 6th rear remote valve. Code 1103: The Electronic Draft Control (EDC) controller is receiving conflicting inputs from the side link switch.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
- Case IH Magnum Series
- Case IH Steiger Series
Check the cause
For 4304: Navigate to the rear hydraulic valve stack and locate Valve No. 6.
For 4304: Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the valve for corrosion, pushed pins, or wire chafing.
For 4304: Check the voltage supply to the valve using a multimeter.
For 4304: Test the spool position transducer/neutral switch for proper resistance.
For 1103: Locate the EDC side link switch (typically mounted on the rear fender or hitch control pod).
For 1103: Inspect the switch for physical damage, sticking buttons, or water ingress (a common cause of input conflicts).
For 1103: Disconnect the switch and test continuity across the pins for both the 'raise' and 'lower' positions. If continuity exists on both circuits simultaneously when the button is at rest, the switch has failed internally.
Repair steps
Relieve pressure
For 4304: Relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system.
Disconnect connector
For 4304: Disconnect the electrical connector from the No. 6 remote valve slice.
Replace sensor or valve
For 4304: Unthread the sensor and replace it. If the internal spool sensor has failed on a modern Bosch Rexroth/CNH valve stack, replace the electronic actuator head or the entire valve slice.
Install and reconnect
For 4304: Install the new component and reconnect the wiring harness.
Calibrate valve
For 4304: Use the tractor's Pro 700/1200 display or an EST diagnostic tool to perform a remote valve calibration so the controller can learn the new neutral set-point.
Disconnect battery
For 1103: Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove screws
For 1103: Remove the mounting screws securing the side link switch housing to the fender/control pod.
Pull switch
For 1103: Carefully pull the switch out to expose the wiring pigtail.
Disconnect and clean
For 1103: Disconnect the electrical connector. Clean the machine-side harness connector with electronic contact cleaner.
Plug in switch
For 1103: Plug in the new EDC side link switch.
Mount housing
For 1103: Mount the switch housing back into the fender and secure the screws.
Reconnect and test
For 1103: Reconnect the battery, power on the tractor, and test the hitch raise/lower function to ensure the conflict code clears.
