Case IH 4307 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote): Rear Remote No.6 - Spool Deflection Too Short
Issue description
This code indicates that the electronic controller commanded the spool valve for Rear Remote #6 to move, but the internal position transducer (sensor) detected that the spool did not travel the expected distance. This condition is typically caused by mechanical binding of the spool, a faulty pilot head (the electronic actuator/solenoid module), low pilot pressure, or a failed internal position sensor.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- Magnum
- Steiger T4B
- Magnum Series
- Steiger Series
- Quadtrac Series
Check the cause
Check for secondary EHR codes (such as 4305, 4306, or 4312) which would point to an electrical issue rather than a mechanical bind.
Check valve LED flash codes on the EHR valve; a flash code of 2-3 confirms 'Spool deflection too short'.
Perform a connector swap test by swapping the electrical harness connector from Remote #6 to an adjacent working remote (e.g., Remote #5) to isolate if the fault is in the wiring/controller or the valve/pilot head.
Attempt to recalibrate the EHR valves via the tractor's cab instrumentation display.
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure
Turn off the tractor and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system. Ensure the implement is lowered and articulation locks are installed (if working on a Steiger).
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the rear remote valve stack to prevent contamination from entering the hydraulic system.
Remove the Pilot Head
Disconnect the electrical connector to Remote #6. Unbolt and remove the pilot head (the electronic module bolted to the top/end of the valve slice).
Inspect the Spool
Check the exposed main spool for scoring, debris, or mechanical binding. If the spool is heavily scored or stuck, the entire valve section will need to be replaced.
Replace the Pilot Head / Valve
If the spool moves freely but the code persists, the internal position transducer or solenoids inside the pilot head have failed. Replace the pilot head assembly. (In many dealership repairs, the entire valve slice is replaced as a single unit to guarantee a fix).
Recalibrate
After installing the new pilot head or valve section, you must recalibrate the EHR valves using the tractor's display or the dealer service tool before operating the machine.
