Case IH 4307 – EHR (Electronic Hitch / Remote): Rear Remote No.6 - Spool Deflection Too Short

Issue description

The internal position transducer inside the #6 rear remote control valve is detecting that the hydraulic spool is not traveling its full, commanded distance. This is typically caused by a mechanical binding inside the valve, a failing electric pilot head, or a faulty internal position sensor.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Case IH Magnum Series (e.g., 235 - 340 Series 4)
  • Case IH Steiger / Quadtrac Series (350 to 600 HP)

Check the cause

  1. Cycle the power to see if the EHR module resets and restores function to the #6 remote.

  2. Inspect the #6 rear remote valve at the back of the tractor for external damage, debris, or loose electrical harness connections at the pilot head.

  3. Perform an actuator swap test to isolate whether the issue is electrical or mechanical: swap the electric pilot head (actuator module) from a known working remote (like #4 or #5) with the #6 remote.

  4. Run the tractor to re-test. If the fault code changes to the remote you swapped the head to, the pilot head is the culprit. If the 4307 code remains on Remote #6, the mechanical spool or internal position transducer inside the valve body is failing.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Lower all implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and cycle the remote levers/switches to relieve all hydraulic pressure in the system.

  2. Disconnect Battery

Disconnect the negative battery cable before working on the EHR electrical components.

  3. Remove the Pilot Head

Disconnect the wiring harness from the #6 remote valve actuator. Unbolt and remove the electric pilot head from the top/rear of the valve section.

  4. Inspect the Spool

Check the exposed mechanical spool for scoring, metal shavings, or sticking. If the spool is physically jammed, the entire valve section will need to be removed and rebuilt/replaced.

  5. Replace the Faulty Component

If the pilot head failed: Install a new proportional hydraulic valve actuator (pilot head) onto the valve body. If the valve body failed: Unbolt the #6 valve slice from the hydraulic stack, taking care not to lose the inter-valve O-rings. Install the replacement remote valve assembly and torque the tie-rods to OEM spec.

  6. Reassemble and Calibrate

Reconnect the hydraulic lines and electrical harnesses. Power on the tractor and use the Pro 700 display (or dealer diagnostic tool) to perform a remote valve calibration so the EHR module can learn the exact travel limits of the new spool/actuator.
