Case IH 4309 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote): Rear Remote No.6 - Open Center Position Not Reached

The internal spool inside the #6 electro-hydraulic remote valve is failing to physically return to or reach its neutral/open center position when commanded. This typically results in the tractor's system locking out that specific remote valve to prevent unintended hydraulic operation until the tractor is restarted.

   Check for other active EHR error codes. Make a note of them, clear the codes, and test the system for normal operation to see if the fault returns.

   Test the regulated hydraulic pressure supplied to the remote manifold.

   Ensure the EHR lever/controls in the cab are properly calibrated.

   Verify that the EHR controller has the latest software level installed.

   Correct Supply Pressure

   If your hydraulic pressure test failed, repair the hydraulic supply issue (e.g., pump compensator or supply lines) before condemning the valve.

   Software & Configuration

   If the pressure is within specification, use the dealer Electronic Service Tool (EST) to download the correct level of software and re-configure the EHR valve.

   Replace the Valve Section

   If the fault re-occurs after software configuration, the electronic pilot head (the electronic module that controls the remote valve) on Remote No. 6 is internally faulty and must be replaced.

   Removal

   Relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system. Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the #6 remote valve. Unbolt the faulty EHR valve section/pilot head from the rear hydraulic valve stack.

   Installation

   Install the new EHR valve section using new O-rings to prevent leaks between the valve slices. Torque the mounting bolts to factory specifications and reconnect the electrical harness.

   Final Calibration

   You must use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to configure and calibrate the new EHR valve section to the tractor's network before it will operate correctly.
