Case IH 4309 – UCM (Universal Control Module): Park Brake Button Timeout (30 Seconds)

The Universal Control Module (UCM) has detected the Park Brake Button being held down (or the circuit remaining closed) for a continuous period of more than 30 seconds. This is a safety timeout feature designed to prevent erratic operation.

   Inspect the Park Brake Button on the right-hand control handle for dirt, debris, or sticky residue that might physically hold the button down.

   Press and release the button to verify mechanical function, ensuring it springs back freely and does not bind.

   Monitor live data using the instrument cluster display or an Electronic Service Tool (EST) to see if the button registers as continuously 'Pressed'.

   Inspect the wiring harness exiting the right-hand control handle for chafing, pinching, or shorts to ground/power.

   Clean the Switch

   If the button is sticking due to debris, use compressed air and a plastic-safe electrical contact cleaner to free the button mechanism.

   Replace the Switch/Handle

   If the button is physically broken, lacks spring tension, or tests internally shorted with a multimeter, the switch must be replaced. Note: On many Case IH EH control setups, the entire right-hand control handle assembly must be replaced.

   Repair Wiring

   If the handle tests fine but the UCM still reads a closed circuit, trace the harness from the right-hand joystick to the UCM and repair any shorted wires.

   Clear the Code

   Once repaired, use the instrument cluster's setup menu or a service tool to clear the inactive fault code.

   Test Operation

   Sit in the operator seat, fasten the seat belt, and lower the restraint bar. Start the engine and press the 'OPERATE' button to activate the loader arms and ground drive. Verify that the park brake engages and disengages normally without triggering the 4309 timeout code.
