Case IH 4311 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Rear Remote No.6 - Output Stage Faulty

The control module has detected an electrical fault in the output stage (the driver circuit) for the Rear Remote Valve #6. The electrical signal/drive to the actuator (commonly called the pilot head or solenoid) that controls remote #6 is failing, shorted to ground, or experiencing an open circuit.

   Check for accompanying EHR error codes (such as 4312, 4313, or 4314) that might indicate a broader system or harness issue.

   Clear the error code using the tractor's display or Electronic Service Tool (EST) and test the system for normal operation to see if it is a hard fault or an intermittent glitch.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the EHR controller and the Remote Valve #6 actuator. Look for loose connections, bent pins, corrosion, or damaged wiring.

   Test the resistance of the valve solenoid/actuator coil at the connector. A reading that is too high indicates an open circuit in the coil; a reading that is too low indicates a short.

   Swap the actuator (pilot head) from Remote #6 with a known good actuator from another remote (e.g., Remote #4 or #5). If the fault code changes to the new remote location, the actuator is faulty. If the code remains 4311, the issue is in the wiring harness or the EHR controller itself.

   Safety First

   Park the tractor on level ground, lower all implements, relieve hydraulic pressure by cycling the remote levers with the key on/engine off, and turn off the battery disconnect switch.

   Access the Valve Block

   Locate the rear remote valve block at the rear of the tractor and identify valve section #6. Clean the area thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Unplug the electrical connector from the pilot head on remote #6.

   Remove the Faulty Actuator

   Remove the mounting screws (typically hex socket screws) holding the pilot head assembly to the valve body. Carefully pull the pilot head off the valve. Note the position of any dowel pins and remove the old O-rings.

   Install the New Actuator

   Ensure the mating surface on the valve body is completely clean. Install new O-rings. Mount the new pilot head assembly onto the valve body, ensuring the dowel pins align correctly. Tighten the mounting screws to the OEM specified torque.

   Reconnect and Calibrate

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Turn on the tractor, clear the fault codes, and perform a remote valve calibration procedure (often found in the HH menu on the instrument cluster or via the EST) so the EHR controller can learn the new valve's neutral and travel limits.
