4312

Case IH 4312 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Incoherent number of REHR setting

Issue description

Configuration mismatch on the tractor's CAN bus network. The controller is detecting that the programmed number of rear remote valves in the software does not match the physical number of remote valve slices it is communicating with on the network.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Case IH Magnum series
  • Case IH Puma series
  • Case IH Optum series
  • Case IH Maxxum series
  • Case IH Farmall series

Check the cause

  1. Physically count the number of rear remote valve slices installed on the back of the tractor

  2. Access the tractor's display monitor or use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check the current configuration setting for the number of rear remotes

  3. If the programmed number matches the physical number, inspect the CAN bus harness, terminating resistors, and connectors at the rear remote valve stack for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Tool

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or access the tractor's onboard "H Menu" (diagnostics/configuration menu).

  2. Navigate to EHR Settings

Go to the configuration settings for the Rear Electro-Hydraulic Remotes (REHR).

  3. Update Configuration

Change the "Number of REHR" setting to exactly match the physical number of rear remote valves installed on the machine.

  4. Save and Calibrate

Save the configuration. If prompted, perform a spool calibration for the rear remotes to ensure the controller recognizes the limits of each valve slice.

  5. Address Harness Issues

If the configuration was already correct, disconnect the electrical connectors at the rear remote stack. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and reconnect. Repair any chafed CAN bus wires leading to the valve stack.

  6. Clear Codes

Clear the fault code stack, cycle the ignition key, and operate the rear remotes to verify the code 4312 does not return.
