Case IH 4313 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote): Rear Remote No.6 - Spool Cannot be Brought Back to Neutral
Issue description
A mechanical or hydraulic issue where the internal spool inside the #6 rear remote control valve is physically binding, sticking, or unable to center itself back to the neutral position after being actuated.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- Magnum
- Steiger T4B
- Case IH Magnum (235 - 340 Series 4 and newer)
- Case IH Steiger & Quadtrac (350, 400, 450, 500, 550, 600)
- Case IH Puma
- Case IH Maxxum
Check the cause
Check recent service history to determine if the remote valve section was recently replaced, removed, or serviced (over-torqued tie bolts are a common cause).
Check hydraulic fluid for contamination or debris buildup caused by extended maintenance intervals.
Check for accompanying EHR error codes (such as voltage or checksum errors). If 4313 is the only code, the issue is almost certainly mechanical binding.
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure & Adjust Tie Bolt Torque
Locate the EHR valve stack at the rear of the tractor. Loosen the tie bolts holding the remote valve sections together. Carefully re-torque the tie bolts to exactly 47 - 52 N·m (35 - 38 lb ft). Over-tightening warps the valve body and prevents the spool from returning to neutral.
Test the System
Clear the error code using the tractor's display or an Electronic Service Tool (EST) and test the #6 remote. If the spool now returns to neutral, the troubleshooting is complete.
Clean the Spool
If the valve still sticks, the spool must be removed from the valve body. Clean the spool and the internal bore to remove any contamination or debris.
Replace Components
If the spool is heavily scored or the valve body is damaged, the main spool or the entire remote valve section must be replaced.
Perform Maintenance
Change the hydraulic fluid and hydraulic filters to prevent the issue from recurring in other remote valves.
